Until 1947 protection of the Royal Family when in Berkshire and the guarding of Windsor Castle was responsibility of Windsor Borough Police. They didn't amalgamate with Berkshire County Constabulary due to the importance of their role. They later amalgamated in 1947 under the Police Act 1946.”
